A-G Physical Assessment

A

AIRWAY

  • Open and clear airway, remove obstructions
  • Check for mouth/neck swelling?

B

BREATHING

  • Check respiration rate & O2 saturation
  • Apply 1L O2 only if Spo2 < 92%
  • Chest moving normally? Cough or wheeze?

C

CIRCULATION

  • Check Pulse & BP (check manually)
  • Blue, pale or cool skin?
  • Bleeding?

D

DISABILITY

  • Reduced consciousness/ confusion
  • New limb weakness or speech disturbance
  • New /Increased pain

E

EXPOSURE

  • Check temperature
  • Skin check-Remove dressings/ bandages
  • New wounds/rashes?

F

FLUIDS

  • Fluid intake? Thirsty, dry mouth?
  • Passing urine, amount, colour?
  • Increasing weight or swollen legs?

G

GLUCOSE / GI TRACT

  • Check blood sugar level
  • Diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting?
  • Abdominal pain or distension

If required, apply First Aid.
